Senior Occupational Therapist – Autism Specialist (Permanent)

About the role

The Senior Occupational Therapist (Autism Specialist) will lead and support the OT service in Harrow, ensuring statutory assessments, plans and risk reviews are completed promptly to promote citizen welfare.

Key responsibilities

• Provide advice and support to OT staff, OTA’s and Trusted Assessors on adult and child cases.
• Advise on commissioning of adaptations and equipment to enhance independence.
• Offer professional guidance to Social Care Teams and the Harrow Adaptations and Facilities/Repair Team (HART).
• Deputise for the OT Team Manager, act as Duty Manager and chair professional meetings, including Safeguarding Adults enquiries.
• Supervise OT on‑duty staff, allocate cases by priority, and record decisions in the electronic system.
• Manage complex cases involving moving and handling issues, liaising with internal and external partners.
• Provide professional supervision for up to four OTs, Trusted Assessors and, where applicable, OT students.
• Conduct joint visits and deliver constructive feedback on practice.

Required profile

• Minimum of 2 years post‑qualification experience as an Occupational Therapist.
• Demonstrated ability to handle complex, high‑risk caseloads.
• Experience supervising and mentoring OT staff.
• Strong understanding of safeguarding procedures and social care commissioning.
• Ability to work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams.
