Senior Payroller, Bookkeeper and VAT Controller

About the role

We are looking for a Senior Payroller, Bookkeeper and VAT Controller to join a growing accountancy practice in Newton Abbot. You will manage payroll, bookkeeping and VAT services for a diverse client base, working both on‑site and remotely.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver weekly, monthly and annual payroll services for sole traders, partnerships and limited companies.
• Perform bookkeeping up to extended trial balance and prepare management accounts.
• Prepare, review and submit VAT returns, handling client queries and CIS submissions.
• Provide support to managers and directors, maintaining client relationships and contributing to business development.

Required profile

• AAT qualification or equivalent experience in an accountancy practice.
• 2‑3 + years of payroll experience, with exposure to bookkeeping, VAT and CIS.
• Experience using cloud accounting platforms (Xero) and accounting software (CCH, Sage 50).
• Ability to work full‑time or part‑time with flexible, hybrid arrangements.

What we offer

• Salary £28,000‑£35,000 per year, dependent on experience.
