Senior Pharmacist – Antimicrobial Stewardship & Academic Practitioner

About the role

The Royal Wolverhampton NHS Trust is looking for an enthusiastic Senior Pharmacist to join its Antimicrobial Stewardship (AMS) team while also serving as an Academic Practitioner with the University of Birmingham. This dual position blends frontline clinical pharmacy with teaching, supervision and scholarly activity.

Key responsibilities

• Provide advanced clinical pharmacy services on acute wards and OPAT clinics, acting as an independent prescriber.
• Lead antibiotic optimisation for complex, acutely unwell patients and contribute to multidisciplinary ward rounds.
• Deliver specialist advice on prudent antimicrobial use to healthcare professionals, patients and carers.
• Support the Principal Pharmacist for AMS in training staff and updating trust guidelines, policies and the antimicrobial formulary.
• Participate in regular AMS and antifungal stewardship ward rounds.
• Contribute to undergraduate and postgraduate teaching, supervise students and support clinical placements at the University of Birmingham.
• Engage in research and scholarly activities that enhance the School of Pharmacy & Life Sciences.

Required profile

• Registered pharmacist with a current licence to practice in the UK.
• Qualified non‑medical Independent Prescriber (NMP) or ability to obtain qualification.
• Significant experience in acute hospital pharmacy, preferably with antimicrobial stewardship.
• Demonstrated interest or experience in academic teaching and supervision.
