Senior Pharmacy Technician – Medicines Information Team

About the role

An exciting opportunity exists for an enthusiastic Pharmacy Technician to join the friendly Medicines Information (MI) team within the Pharmacy Department at Aberdeen Royal Infirmary. The Grampian Medicines Information Centre handles a large volume of complex medicines‑related enquiries each year, providing evidence‑based advice to support safe and effective patient care.

Key responsibilities

• Provide teaching and training to local pharmacy team members.
• Carry out a clinical duty on a ward within Aberdeen Royal Infirmary.
• Answer medicines‑related enquiries from healthcare professionals across NHS Grampian, Shetland and Orkney.
• Support the development and maintenance of guidelines and policies.
• Deliver a high‑quality Medicines Information service to all healthcare settings.
• Undertake the Medicines Information and Advice Training Programme (MIATP) to become accredited in specific enquiry types.

Required profile

• Registered pharmacy technician.
• Excellent communication and organisational skills.
• Strong desire to provide a high‑quality, safe, effective and efficient service.
• Willingness to complete MIATP training if not already achieved.

Required skills

• Pharmacy technical knowledge and competence.
• Expertise in medicines information handling and enquiry response.
• Ability to develop and interpret clinical guidelines.
• Experience in teaching or training pharmacy staff.
