Senior Pharmacy Technician – Prescribing Support

About the role

This permanent part‑time position is based at Barrhead Health Centre and forms part of the Pharmacy Prescribing Support team within NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde. The Senior Pharmacy Technician will lead the Primary Care Pharmacy Team, supporting safe, effective and person‑centred pharmacotherapy across 13 GP practices.

Key responsibilities

• Lead and manage pharmacy technicians and support staff across hub and GP practice settings.
• Contribute to strategic planning and service improvement initiatives for the pharmacotherapy service.
• Deliver training and education to GP practice teams, clinical staff and multidisciplinary colleagues.
• Identify prescribing interventions aligned with HSCP priorities and implement changes to promote high‑quality, cost‑effective patient care.
• Provide mentorship, leadership and professional guidance to junior team members.
• Support medicines reconciliation activities and contribute to audit processes.
• Develop and update Good Practice Guides for medicines management.
• Conduct face‑to‑face medicine reviews with patients, offering education and advice.

Required profile

• Motivated and enthusiastic Pharmacy Technician.
• Proven experience in a leadership or supervisory capacity within primary care pharmacy.
• Ability to work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams across GP practices, community pharmacies, care homes and social care settings.
• Commitment to evidence‑based prescribing and continuous service improvement.
