Senior Planning Officer

About the role

The Senior Planning Officer will lead the preparation and review of professional reports for major and minor planning and regeneration projects. This role involves presenting applications to the Planning Committee, mentoring junior staff, and handling complex planning enquiries.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare and review reports and formulate recommendations for planning and regeneration projects.
• Present planning applications at committee meetings and answer queries.
• Mentor and train junior staff members.
• Determine certain categories of applications under the Council’s Scheme of Delegation.
• Lead the resolution of complex enquiries and contentious cases.
• Assess validity and support registration of major planning applications.
• Provide planning advice during the validation process and allocate incoming applications accurately.

Required profile

• Extensive experience in planning and regeneration projects.
• Proven ability to prepare professional reports and recommendations.
• Experience presenting planning applications to committees.
• Capability to mentor and train junior staff.
• Knowledge of council delegation schemes and validation procedures.
• Strong problem‑solving skills for complex and contentious cases.
