Senior Practitioner – Locality Team

About the role

The Locality team at Caerphilly County Borough Council is seeking a Senior Practitioner to provide expert social work support, supervise staff, and deputise for the Team Manager when required. This full‑time temporary position offers the chance to influence high‑quality service delivery for vulnerable people.

Key responsibilities

• Manage a mixed, complex caseload within statutory and locally agreed timescales.
• Supervise Social Workers, Students, Volunteers and Support Workers, providing guidance and performance monitoring.
• Assist the Team Manager in achieving performance targets and service standards.
• Develop and maintain partnerships with local and national agencies to deliver outcome‑focused plans.
• Represent the directorate in panels, courts and multidisciplinary meetings, preparing reports and giving evidence.
• Contribute to service development through meetings, workshops and task groups.

Required profile

• Qualified social worker with extensive experience handling complex cases.
• Proven ability to supervise and develop staff.
• Strong knowledge of relevant legislation, regulations and council policies.
• Excellent partnership and multidisciplinary working skills.
• Commitment to continuous professional development and training.
