Senior Property & Casualty Underwriter

About the role

This senior underwriting position offers the chance to own new business development across Property and Casualty lines. You will collaborate with brokers and internal teams to identify, shape and secure high‑quality opportunities while maintaining underwriting discipline and profitability.

Key responsibilities

• Underwrite new Property and Casualty business in line with appetite and authority levels.
• Proactively develop new broker relationships to drive growth.
• Deliver profitable new business by applying sound underwriting judgment and technical expertise.
• Analyse risk exposures, terms and pricing using underwriting tools and data.
• Build and maintain strong relationships with key brokers and internal stakeholders.
• Contribute to regional business plans and growth strategies.
• Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and internal governance.
• Act as a senior referral point and mentor for less‑experienced underwriters.

Required profile

• Proven experience in commercial Property & Casualty underwriting with a focus on new business.
• Strong technical underwriting expertise and risk assessment capability.
• Commercial mindset with a track record of delivering profitable growth.
• Excellent negotiation and relationship‑management skills.
• Strong analytical and decision‑making ability.
• Ability to work autonomously while contributing to wider team objectives.

Required skills

• In‑depth knowledge of commercial Property and Casualty insurance, policy coverage and underwriting principles.
• Experience assessing complex commercial risks and determining appropriate solutions.
• Understanding of pricing methodologies, policy wordings, underwriting governance and risk‑management frameworks.
• Familiarity with portfolio management, aggregation exposures and reinsurance considerations.
• Experience using underwriting systems, data analytics and risk assessment tools.
