Senior Quantity Surveyor

About the role

We are partnering with a leading rail infrastructure and civil engineering contractor to hire a Senior Quantity Surveyor for their commercial leadership team in West Yorkshire. The role is hands‑on and influential, responsible for driving commercial performance across a portfolio of reactive and minor project contracts.

Key responsibilities

• Take end‑to‑end commercial ownership of active contract portfolios, controlling cost, margin and financial performance.
• Manage contractual administration, forecasting, reporting and proactive risk mitigation.
• Provide expert contractual advice to project teams, support dispute avoidance and prepare formal correspondence.
• Compile and present financial reports, cost reviews, forecasts and executive‑level submissions.
• Ensure compliance with contract terms, statutory requirements and internal governance.
• Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, stakeholders and subcontractors.
• Oversee cost control processes, payment applications, valuations and certification to support cash flow.
• Identify commercial risks and opportunities, implementing mitigation or value‑adding strategies.
• Mentor and develop members of the wider commercial team.
• Assist with tender preparation and bid pricing for future workstreams.

Required profile

• Proven experience in quantity surveying within rail or civil engineering projects.
• Demonstrated ability to lead commercial functions and manage multiple contracts.
• Strong analytical and financial forecasting skills.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management abilities.
• Capability to mentor and develop junior commercial staff.
