Senior Quantity Surveyor

About the role

Babcock Marine is recruiting multiple Senior Quantity Surveyors for its historic Devonport Royal Dockyard, home of the largest naval base in Western Europe. The role sits at the heart of critical UK defence infrastructure projects, helping deliver commercial excellence across high-impact contracts. It is a full-time, permanent position based in Plymouth with hybrid working arrangements.

Key responsibilities

• Develop robust pre-tender estimates and evaluate design alternatives to drive strategic cost planning
• Produce financial reports that support project and client decisions
• Support contract negotiations to secure favourable commercial outcomes
• Monitor financial performance and recommend corrective action to maintain profitability
• Help shape project budgets with subcontractors and internal teams

Required profile

• Degree or equivalent experience in quantity surveying or a related discipline
• Professional membership or accreditation (e.g. RICS) is advantageous but not essential
• Background in project management and strong knowledge of building and construction practices
• Ability to obtain and maintain Security Check (SC) clearance; the candidate must be a sole UK national

Required skills

• Proficiency in NEC3 or NEC4 contract frameworks
• Specialism in a relevant field such as Civils, Building, Mechanical or Commercial
• Experience with Ministry of Defence (MOD) contracts
