Senior Quantity Surveyor – £65k‑£75k – £100m Bristol Scheme

About the role

Hays is recruiting for a leading UK main contractor to join their commercial team on a newly secured £100 million construction scheme in Filton, Bristol. The role is site‑based and will report to the Commercial Manager, overseeing the commercial aspects of this high‑value, technically complex development within the defence, research and advanced manufacturing sector.

Key responsibilities

• Manage commercial duties on a £100 million construction scheme.
• Prepare and manage subcontractor procurement packages.
• Assess and certify subcontractor interim payments.
• Manage variations, valuations and final accounts.
• Support monthly CVR reporting and cost forecasting.
• Identify and manage commercial risk across the project.
• Assist with extensions of time, loss and expense, and contractual claims as required.
• Maintain strong commercial control over subcontractor accounts.
• Collaborate closely with site teams to ensure commercial and operational alignment.
• Build strong relationships with clients, consultants and supply‑chain partners.

Required profile

• Previous experience as a Quantity Surveyor or Senior Quantity Surveyor with a main contractor.
• Strong experience on large‑scale construction projects.
• Good knowledge of JCT and/or NEC forms of contract.
• Strong commercial awareness and negotiation skills.
• Experience managing subcontractor accounts from procurement through to final account.
• Proven reporting, cost control and CVR experience.
• Excellent communication and organisational skills.
• Degree/HNC/HND or relevant construction/commercial qualification preferred.
