Senior Rail Operations and Systems Analyst

About the role
Arup is seeking a Senior Rail Operations and Systems Analyst to join its London team. This multidisciplinary position bridges technical detail with whole‑railway outcomes, supporting clients in the development and integration of complex railway systems while applying systems engineering and operational principles throughout the project lifecycle.
Key responsibilities
- Apply systems engineering principles across the full project lifecycle.
- Lead technical work packages on rail projects and develop integrated, whole‑system solutions.
- Manage interfaces between disciplines and translate operational needs into practical design outcomes.
- Contribute to feasibility studies, assurance activities, and strategic advisory work.
- Communicate complex technical issues clearly to stakeholders.
- Support bids, project delivery, and the development of junior team members.
Required profile
- Degree in Engineering, Science or a related discipline with Chartered Engineer status (or close to achieving it).
- Strong experience in rail systems engineering or systems engineering within a railway environment.
- Proven application of systems engineering principles (requirements management, integration, verification & validation, assurance).
- Experience in rail operational planning and system modelling techniques.
- Broad understanding of railway subsystems (signalling, rolling stock, power, communications, operations).
- Experience leading technical tasks or work packages with strong stakeholder collaboration.
