Senior Residential Childcare Support Worker

About the role

We are seeking a Senior Residential Childcare Support Worker to join our Barnsley homes on a full‑time, permanent basis. You will work an average of 39 hours per week on a rotating rota, including sleep‑in shifts, to provide a safe and nurturing environment for young people aged 8‑18.

Key responsibilities

• Create a warm, homely atmosphere through daily household tasks.
• Support young people's interests and encourage positive activities.
• Safeguard residents and contribute to care and risk plans.
• Build trusting, meaningful relationships with each young person.
• Promote healthy lifestyles and personal development.
• Manage behaviour with confidence and compassion.
• Support family and peer connections.
• Participate in care planning, reviews, team meetings and advocacy.

Required profile

• Minimum 12 months experience in a children’s residential home.
• Level 3 Diploma in Residential Childcare (or equivalent) – essential.
• Experience supporting vulnerable young people.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Empathetic, patient, resilient and flexible with hours (including sleep‑ins, weekends, bank holidays).
• Good IT and record‑keeping abilities.
