Senior Residential Childcare Worker

About the role

Positive Footsteps is seeking a Senior Residential Childcare Worker to join its children’s home in Reading. The role is full‑time (37 hours) with a mix of day, evening, weekend and sleep‑in shifts, offering a supportive environment where you can make a lasting positive impact on young people’s lives.

Key responsibilities

• Safeguard children and young people at all times, reporting concerns in line with policies.
• Provide daily personal care, medication administration, cooking, cleaning and maintain a safe, organised home.
• Lead the shift team, overseeing the home’s operation and ensuring staff practice meets standards.
• Support education, emotional development and life‑skill building through key work sessions.
• Liaise with external professionals, attend meetings and contribute to care plans, risk assessments and behaviour plans.
• Maintain accurate daily records and reports in compliance with the Children’s Homes Regulations 2015.

Required profile

• Minimum 2 years experience in a residential childcare setting.
• NVQ Level 3 in Children and Young People Workforce.
• Full, clean UK driving licence.
• Proven ability to lead, solve problems and work with young people who have social, emotional or behavioural difficulties.
• Competence in maintaining required administrative records.
