Senior Service Charge Accountant – Property Management

About the role

An established property management company in East Hertfordshire is looking for a Senior Service Charge Accountant / Bookkeeper to join its accounts team. The role combines client‑facing presentations, board‑level reporting and hands‑on support for the office accounts department, with the opportunity to shape the position around your strengths.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare year‑end service charge accounts and liaise with external accountants.
• Manage income and expenditure ledgers, accruals and pre‑payments.
• Produce service charge budgets, forecasts and detailed variance reports.
• Complete bank reconciliations and monitor cash flow.
• Attend quarterly directors’ meetings for larger buildings, presenting financial performance and explaining variances.
• Support property managers in understanding each building’s accounts and financial idiosyncrasies.
• Work with the on‑boarding team to ensure accurate financial set‑up for new business.
• Handle complex client and leaseholder account queries professionally.
• Collaborate with the Head of Accounts on special projects, including Heat Network accounting structures.
• Ensure all financial records comply with RICS and ARMA guidelines.

Required profile

• Strong background in service charge accounting or property accounts.
• Comprehensive knowledge of service charge accounts across multiple departmental areas.
• Proven ability to present financial information to directors and senior stakeholders.
• High level of accuracy, analytical ability and attention to detail.
• Excellent communication and collaborative skills.
• Organised, proactive and able to manage a varied workload.
• Experience with Qube (essential) and familiarity with Sage (advantageous).
