Senior Shipping Coordinator

About the role

The Senior Shipping Coordinator will act as the bridge between shipping and merchandising, overseeing order flow and supplier performance for a fast‑growing importer serving major UK retailers. This hybrid role, based in Oldham, offers the chance to influence logistics processes and support critical launch timelines.

Key responsibilities

• Manage purchase orders from placement through to shipment.
• Build and maintain relationships with suppliers to improve service levels.
• Monitor and chase supplier bookings against shipment schedules.
• Collate, distribute and manage supplier shipment reports.
• Handle customs clearance queries and oversee import processes.
• Track supplier performance against agreed lead times.
• Provide regular updates on vessel movements and shipment status.
• Maintain close liaison with freight forwarders and manage vessel schedule information.
• Communicate date changes to merchandising teams.
• Support critical path discussions to ensure vessels meet launch dates.
• Manage air freight instructions from merchandisers.
• Contribute to improvement initiatives across people, processes and systems.
• Recommend enhancements to supply chain and shipping procedures.

Required profile

• Proven experience as a Shipping Coordinator, preferably within a retailer or importer environment.
• Good understanding of import customs processes.
• Strong communication and articulation abilities.
• Ability to multitask and work under pressure.
