Senior Social Worker – Children & Families (Temp)

About the role

We are seeking a Senior Social Worker to join our Children and Families service in Workington. This temporary position focuses on delivering high‑quality, child‑centred support for complex, high‑risk cases. You will work within a multi‑agency environment to ensure the voice of the child is central to every decision.

Key responsibilities

• Assess and manage complex, high‑risk cases with autonomy and sound judgement.
• Build robust, supportive relationships with children, young people and their families through active listening and observation.
• Develop child‑centred plans and conduct thorough assessments, integrating research evidence and theory.
• Collaborate with multi‑agency partners to identify service gaps and build capacity.
• Apply advanced knowledge of legislation on adoption, permanence and trauma to achieve positive outcomes.
• Provide mentorship and coaching to colleagues, promoting best practice.

Required profile

• Social Work Degree (CQSW/CSS/DipSW) with active Social Work England registration.
• Minimum 3 years post‑qualification experience in a statutory setting, including work with children looked after.
• Proven ability to manage high‑pressure situations and produce clear analytical reports.
• Commitment to ongoing professional development at an advanced level.
• Full, independent ability to travel within and outside the region.
