About the role

Suffolk Council is looking for an experienced Senior Social Worker to join its Social Care Team in Stowmarket. The role focuses on children looked after, delivering high‑quality, child‑centred practice and managing complex, high‑risk cases.

Key responsibilities

• Manage a complex social work caseload of approximately 40 cases.
• Make autonomous professional decisions on high‑complexity, high‑risk cases, with managerial oversight as needed.
• Plan and deliver targeted interventions to meet identified needs and reduce risk for children and families.
• Work closely with partner agencies to coordinate support, services, and resources.
• Lead and conduct Section 47 child protection investigations, ensuring thorough and timely enquiries when significant harm is suspected.

Required profile

• Qualified Social Worker with registration with Social Work England.
• Minimum of 3 years’ experience in social work with children and families.
• Proven experience managing complex caseloads and delivering effective practice.
• Strong ability to conduct in‑depth risk and needs assessments and design effective interventions.
