Senior Social Worker - Children with Disabilities

About the role

Our client St. Helens MBC is seeking a Senior Social Worker to lead its Children with Disabilities team. The role involves delivering high‑quality social work services to children and young people with disabilities, safeguarding their wellbeing and supporting families through complex cases.

Key responsibilities

• Manage a caseload of complex disability cases, including safeguarding, child protection, children in need, looked‑after children and court proceedings.
• Conduct statutory assessments under the Children Act 1989 and Care Act, and develop child‑centred care and support plans.
• Carry out specialist assessments of disability, parenting capacity, risk and family functioning.
• Lead multi‑agency meetings, child protection conferences and core group sessions, ensuring the child’s voice is central.
• Collaborate with education, health, housing and voluntary partners and support transitions to adulthood with Adult Social Care.
• Prepare high‑quality reports for courts, statutory reviews and Child Protection Conferences.
• Respond to safeguarding concerns, undertake Section 47 enquiries and maintain accurate electronic case records.

Required profile

• Fully registered social worker (England and Wales) with experience in children’s disability services.
• Proven ability to manage complex caseloads and mentor junior colleagues.
• Enhanced DBS clearance (or willingness to obtain).
• Strong knowledge of relevant legislation and statutory guidance.
