Senior Social Worker

About the role

We are seeking a qualified Senior Social Worker to lead a multidisciplinary team within Edinburgh City Council’s Adult Service. The role combines strategic leadership with hands‑on case management to ensure high‑quality, person‑centred support for adults.

Key responsibilities

• Supervise and line‑manage up to 8 staff members, including Grade 7 Social Workers and Community Care Assistants.
• Conduct performance reviews, identify training needs and drive professional development.
• Oversee daily workload allocation, ensure compliance with statutory obligations, SSSC registration standards and EHSCP policies.
• Promote and embed the Home First and Three Conversations models of engagement.
• Lead recruitment, selection and onboarding of new team members.
• Make legal and clinical decisions regarding adult support, protection and risk management.
• Manage budgets, authorise payments and participate in resource allocation boards.
• Handle complex enquiries, complaints and represent the partnership at multi‑agency meetings.

Required profile

• Current PVG clearance and SSSC registration.
• Social Work degree.
• Proven senior or management experience in adult social work.
• Experience working with adults, including those with incapacity and safeguarding needs.
