Senior Specifications Technologist

About the role

We are seeking a Senior Specifications Technologist to join a leading manufacturing client in the food sector. The role involves creating and maintaining accurate product specifications and labels, ensuring compliance with legislation and customer expectations.

Key responsibilities

• Gather technical data from manufacturing sites and supply‑chain partners to develop product specifications and labels.
• Maintain specifications using a right‑first‑time approach, aligning with customer, legislative and internal quality requirements.
• Support new product development by preparing sample specifications, reviewing artwork and managing product approval processes.
• Control specification changes through established change‑management procedures and communicate updates to stakeholders.
• Respond to customer technical enquiries with clear, accurate information.
• Assist with certification processes such as Halal, Kosher, Organic and other product accreditations.
• Monitor updates to UK/EU food legislation and customer specifications, evaluating impact on products and processes.
• Identify and implement improvements to specification systems and procedures.

Required profile

• Degree in Food Science or a related scientific discipline.
• Minimum 5 years’ experience developing and maintaining food product specifications.
• Proven experience working with major UK retailers and their specification management systems.
• Strong knowledge of food safety standards and HACCP methodology.
