Senior Staff Research & Standardization Specialist

About the role

Nokia’s Research & Innovation team is looking for a senior specialist to drive 6G radio protocol research and standardization. You will shape the future of mobile communications by leading innovations in radio interface, protocols, and resource management.

Key responsibilities

• Lead end‑to‑end research and standardization of 6G radio protocols, covering control‑plane (RRC) and user‑plane (MAC, PDCP, SDAP, RLC) aspects.
• Integrate AI‑enabled mechanisms into protocol designs, including spectrum aggregation, mobility, and flexible UL/DL handling.
• Perform performance evaluation through link‑level and system‑level simulations.
• Represent Nokia in 3GPP RAN2/RAN4 working groups, shaping agendas and building consensus.
• Develop pioneering 6G intellectual property and embed AI‑first principles into standards.
• Collaborate with physical‑layer, RF, regulatory and system teams to transition research concepts into product‑relevant technologies.

Required profile

• Strong system‑level expertise in 5G and emerging 6G technologies.
• Master’s degree or Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering, Communications, Signal Processing or a related field.
• Deep understanding of radio access systems and associated technical challenges.
• Proven track record of technical contributions to standardization bodies or high‑impact research projects.
