Senior System Administrator – Cloud & VMware

About the role

London Business School is seeking a Senior System Administrator to design, deliver and operate resilient, secure and highly automated infrastructure that supports teaching, research and administrative services. The role combines deep technical expertise with a strong automation mindset, working across on‑premises VMware and Microsoft Azure environments.

Key responsibilities

• Design, implement and maintain scalable infrastructure platforms for hybrid on‑premises and cloud workloads.
• Lead the administration and modernization of VMware and Azure environments.
• Drive Infrastructure as Code using Terraform and embed CI/CD pipelines through Azure DevOps.
• Automate routine tasks and reduce manual effort with PowerShell, Bash and other scripting tools.
• Provide day‑to‑day support for Windows and Linux (Ubuntu) servers, ensuring reliability and security.
• Develop and document technical standards, operational procedures and architectural guidelines.
• Collaborate with academic and professional services teams to translate requirements into automated solutions.
• Mentor junior staff and act as a subject‑matter expert across platform administration.

Required profile

• Significant experience managing hybrid infrastructure environments.
• Strong background with VMware and Microsoft Azure platforms.
• Hands‑on experience with Infrastructure as Code, preferably Terraform.
• Proven ability to implement CI/CD pipelines using Azure DevOps.
• Extensive administration experience on both Windows and Linux systems.
• Advanced scripting skills (PowerShell, Bash) and automation mindset.
