Senior Technical Manager – Operations (Higher Education)

About the role

This senior position leads a large, multidisciplinary technical operation within a leading higher‑education institution. You will shape the future of engineering education and research by overseeing technical services that support world‑class teaching and research programmes.

Key responsibilities

• Lead and develop Technical Managers and Senior Technicians across multiple engineering disciplines.
• Define and implement operational strategy for laboratory and technical services.
• Drive continuous improvement of technical services and support major research and teaching projects.
• Collaborate with senior academic stakeholders to align technical operations with faculty goals.
• Manage large‑scale projects, budgets and resource planning for the technical department.

Required profile

• Proven experience managing technical services in higher education, research or complex laboratory environments.
• Strong people‑management skills with a track record of leading change and building high‑performing teams.
• Ability to influence senior stakeholders and work across multidisciplinary engineering areas.
• Industrial R&D experience considered if operational leadership of lab/research facilities is demonstrated.
