Senior Telecom Engineer – Remote (UK)

About the role

Five9 is looking for an experienced Senior Telecom Engineer to join its cloud operations team. The role supports a 24/7 production environment, focusing on VoIP, SIP and RTP technologies. This position is fully remote and can be based anywhere in the United Kingdom.

Key responsibilities

• Interface with customers' telecom engineers and IT teams to deploy customized solutions and troubleshoot issues.
• Provide day‑to‑day operational support of the telecommunications network, analyzing availability problems and quality reports.
• Act as escalation point for the Network Operations Center to resolve critical SBC alerts.
• Perform root‑cause analysis on service outages and implement preventive measures.
• Create technical documentation, call‑flow diagrams and manage vendor relationships.
• Deploy new services, conduct inter‑op testing with carriers, and participate in on‑call emergency rotation.

Required profile

• 3+ years of telecom engineering experience with VoIP/SIP voice applications.
• Strong knowledge of voice and data communications, including SIP, TCP/IP, MPLS and traditional switching.
• Experience with ribbon SBCs, PSX and session border controllers.
• Excellent organizational, documentation and troubleshooting skills.
• Ability to maintain a global voice network to meet a 99.99% SLA.

Required skills

• VoIP/SIP protocols, H.248, G.711, G.729, WebRTC, RTP, MTP.
• Session Border Controllers (Sonus/Ribbon, AudioCodes) and SIP proxies.
• Network analysis tools such as Wireshark and Empirix.
• RTP stream analysis (MOS, jitter, latency, packet loss).
• Linux/Unix system administration commands.
• Softswitch, media servers (AudioCodes IPM‑6310, FreeSWITCH) and direct‑connect SIP trunking.
