Senior Telecoms Systems Engineer

About the role

The Ubiquitous Communication (UC) engineering department is seeking a Senior Telecoms Systems Engineer to drive system‑engineering solutions for terrestrial and non‑terrestrial networks (TN and NTN). You will work across national and international projects, collaborating with research institutes, commercial operators and industry partners.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver technical solutions on satellite‑enabled 5G/6G projects and end‑to‑end network architectures.
• Lead collaborative projects with external stakeholders, including field deployment and system design.
• Provide technical consultancy to businesses and support university and R&D engagements.
• Write bids for framework programmes such as IUK, ESA and Horizon.

Required profile

• PhD or MSc in Satellite Communications, Telecommunications Systems or a related discipline, or equivalent experience.
• Minimum 7 years of experience in telecommunications or a closely related field.
• Proven track record as a technical lead on multi‑partner projects.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills in English.

Required skills

• Expert knowledge of UE/UT, RAN, Core, Payload or Ground Station technologies.
• Deep understanding of full end‑to‑end satellite communication network architecture and implementation.
• Experience developing solutions for end users in satellite and terrestrial networks.
