Senior Town Planner – Planning Consultancy

About the role

Penguin Recruitment is supporting a respected planning consultancy in Crawley, seeking a Senior Town Planner to lead and deliver a varied portfolio of residential, commercial, mixed‑use and strategic development projects. The role involves managing planning applications from appraisal through to determination, providing strategic advice and building strong client relationships within a collaborative environment.

Key responsibilities

• Lead and manage planning applications and appeals across a range of sectors
• Prepare and review planning statements, appraisal reports and supporting documentation
• Undertake site appraisals and development feasibility assessments
• Provide strategic planning advice to clients and consultant teams
• Manage client relationships and act as a key point of contact
• Liaise with Local Planning Authorities, consultees and key stakeholders
• Support and mentor junior team members
• Attend client meetings, site visits and planning consultations
• Contribute to business development and networking activities

Required profile

• RTPI accredited degree in Town Planning or related discipline
• MRTPI qualified or working towards Chartership
• Strong experience within a planning consultancy, developer or local authority environment
• Excellent understanding of the UK planning system and planning policy
• Strong communication, negotiation and client‑facing skills
• Proven ability to manage projects and deadlines effectively
• Commercial awareness and a proactive approach
• Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a team
