Senior/Principal Electrical Design Engineer (Hybrid, Bristol)

About the role

We are seeking a Senior/Principal Electrical Design Engineer to join a well‑established building services consultancy in Bristol. The role offers hybrid working, a diverse project portfolio and the chance to lead design delivery while mentoring junior staff.

Key responsibilities

• Lead electrical design from concept through to completion across commercial, residential, healthcare, education, retail, leisure, industrial and infrastructure projects.
• Produce and review electrical calculations, specifications, reports and technical documentation.
• Design distribution, lighting, standby generation and UPS systems and carry out load assessments and system sizing.
• Ensure compliance with British Standards, current regulations and CDM risk requirements.
• Manage project programmes, budgets and design deliverables, coordinating with clients, architects, contractors and multidisciplinary teams.
• Support bid submissions, fee proposals and cost estimates.
• Provide technical leadership and promote innovative, low‑carbon solutions.
• Mentor and develop junior engineers and technicians.

Required profile

• Essential degree, HND or equivalent in Electrical Engineering, Building Services Engineering or a related discipline.
• Proven experience delivering electrical building‑services designs within a consultancy environment.
• Strong understanding of electrical building‑services systems and design principles.
• Experience managing projects and coordinating multidisciplinary teams.
• Knowledge of RIBA work stages and project delivery processes.
