About the role

The University of Manchester is seeking a Sensor Engineering Specialist to join the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering. This fixed‑term position lasts 15 months and offers a competitive salary band.

Key responsibilities

  • Develop, test, and optimise sensor technologies for research and teaching projects.
  • Collaborate with academic staff and external partners to deliver sensor‑related solutions.
  • Maintain laboratory equipment, ensure compliance with safety standards, and document engineering processes.
  • Provide technical support and training to students and researchers.

Required profile

  • Relevant degree or postgraduate qualification in electrical, electronic or sensor engineering.
  • Demonstrated experience in sensor design, integration or testing.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Strong communication skills and a commitment to inclusive, diverse workplaces.

Required skills

  • Experience with sensor hardware and associated measurement systems.
  • Familiarity with data acquisition and analysis tools.
