Service Accountant – Adult Social Care

About the role

Hackney Council is looking for an experienced Service Accountant to join the Adult Social Care Finance team. The role provides high‑quality financial business partnering to service managers, ensuring effective budget management, accurate forecasting and statutory compliance. You will help deliver value‑for‑money services across the council’s adult social care portfolio.

Key responsibilities

• Provide financial advice and support to Adult Social Care budget holders and senior managers.
• Lead budget setting, monitoring, forecasting and financial planning activities.
• Develop financial models for demand analysis, cost forecasting and service planning.
• Produce management reports, variance analysis and financial insights for decision‑making.
• Support year‑end close, statutory accounts preparation and financial reporting.
• Manage grant funding, reconciliations and financial control processes.
• Assist transformation programmes, savings plans and efficiency reviews.
• Prepare financial reports and presentations for senior leadership and governance meetings.

Required profile

• Proven experience in Local Authority or public sector finance.
• Strong background in Adult Social Care finance (highly desirable).
• Fully qualified or finalist in CIPFA, ACCA, CIMA, CCAB or equivalent professional finance experience.
• Knowledge of Local Government finance regulations and CIPFA principles.
• Experience supporting year‑end close and statutory reporting.
