Service Engineer – Depot Operations & Fleet Maintenance

About the role

The Service Engineer supports depot operations by performing inspections, servicing and repairs on the hire fleet at customer sites and company depots. The role also ensures all trailers remain legally compliant and assists the technical centre with fleet upgrades as directed by the Regional Manager.

Key responsibilities

• Carry out inspections, servicing, repairs and fault resolution for hire fleet assets on site and in depots.
• Complete accurate paperwork for inspections, repairs and servicing, distinguishing wear‑and‑tear, customer damage and warranty issues.
• Maintain health and safety standards, report hazards and near‑misses, and follow RAMS, COSHH and toolbox talks.
• Manage work tools, spare stock and a company‑assigned vehicle, ensuring they are ready for use.
• Wear appropriate PPE and represent SRL professionally at all times.
• Participate in both theoretical and practical training and development activities.

Required profile

• No prior specific experience required – full training will be provided.
• Full UK driving licence with no more than six penalty points.
• Strong focus on health and safety and proactive problem‑solving mindset.
• Physically fit for a manual, active role.
• Organised, reliable, self‑motivated with keen attention to detail.
• Flexible and adaptable to changing priorities.
• Commitment to delivering a high‑quality customer experience.

Required skills

• Basic electrical knowledge.
• Proficiency with hand and power tools.
• Familiarity with traffic‑light equipment.
• CSCS card holder certification.
• Competence operating company vans and pickups up to 3.5 tonnes.
• Ability to tow a trailer carrying plant equipment.
