Setting Out Engineer – Site Survey & BIM Support

About the role

We are looking for a Setting Out Engineer to carry out detailed site surveys across operational sites in Surrey, Sussex and Kent. The role supports the BIM and delivery teams by capturing accurate as‑built data for fire‑evacuation modelling and point‑cloud generation.

Key responsibilities

• Perform site‑by‑site surveys using setting‑out and reality‑capture techniques to record buildings, structures, routes, tanks and plant.
• Attend weekly look‑ahead meetings, review RAMS, permits and site controls before commencing work.
• Operate survey equipment such as total stations, GPS/GNSS, laser scanners, SLAM devices, 360° cameras and tablets.
• Capture control points, levels, orientations and georeferenced data for BIM reuse.
• Complete survey forms, checklists, photo logs and daily notes, noting exclusions, safety limits and weather conditions.
• Escalate any access or safety issues promptly and ensure data is backed up and uploaded to the designated location.

Required profile

• Full UK driving licence.
• Junior to mid‑level experience in setting‑out, site engineering, land or utility surveying (water, wastewater, civils, industrial or FM environments preferred).
• Practical knowledge of measurement, levels, control, coordinates and georeferencing.

Required skills

• Total station operation.
• GPS/GNSS surveying.
• Laser scanning and SLAM technology.
• 360° camera usage.
• Tablet‑based data capture.

What we offer

• £250 per day, paid weekly via umbrella.
• Ongoing contract with regular site work (Monday‑Friday, 8 am‑5 pm).
