Shift Electrical & Instrumentation Technician (12‑hr Rotating)

About the role

We are looking for a proactive Shift Electrical & Instrumentation (E&I) Technician to join the site operations team at a major manufacturing and distribution facility in Thurrock, Grays. The role involves 12‑hour rotating day/night shifts, delivering breakdown repairs, preventative maintenance and instrument calibrations to keep high‑volume production lines running efficiently.

Key responsibilities

• Diagnose and resolve faults on production machinery by reading PLC logic and control system diagrams.
• Repair, rebuild, install and commission 415 V motor control circuits, coordinated drives, DOL starters, actuators and solenoids.
• Verify and calibrate process instruments such as flow, level, temperature, pressure and radar devices.
• Log, track and close work orders using the SAP PM maintenance management system.
• Collaborate with production technicians on emergency repairs and assist with mechanical maintenance tasks as needed.

Required profile

• Minimum HNC/NVQ Level 3 (or City & Guilds Part III/ONC) in Electrical Engineering.
• Proven electrical maintenance experience in FMCG, food processing, beverage or high‑volume automated manufacturing environments.
• Ability to produce clear technical reports in English.

Required skills

• Hands‑on experience with PLC systems (preferably Allen Bradley).
• Experience with SCADA frameworks.
• Proficiency in SAP PM (CMMS) for work‑order management.
• Competence with 415 V motor control circuits and complex machine‑coordinated drives.
• Knowledge of DOL starters, actuators and solenoids.
• Instrumentation calibration skills for flow, level, temperature, pressure and radar devices.
• Strong fault‑finding and system‑automation abilities.

• Competitive salary up to £63,501 per annum (approximately £30.53 per hour inclusive of shift allowance).
