Shift Electrician – Heavy Engineering (4 on 4 off)

About the role
We are seeking an experienced Shift Electrician to join our heavy engineering team in Lydney. The role involves hands‑on maintenance of large‑scale industrial plant operating on a 4‑on‑4‑off shift pattern, supporting continuous process operations.
Key responsibilities
- Diagnose and repair electrical faults on heavy industrial plant and machinery.
- Maintain AC and DC motors, generators, drives and associated equipment.
- Fault‑find motor control systems, PLC‑controlled equipment, instrumentation and electrical distribution.
- Work on medium and low voltage power systems.
- Maintain cranes, lifting equipment, compressors, hydraulic and pneumatic systems.
- Install, service and test electrical equipment and lighting systems.
- Carry out preventative maintenance and record activities in SAP/CMMS.
- Identify recurring failures and recommend engineering improvements.
- Support Management of Change (MOC) and work under Electrical and Mechanical Permit‑to‑Work systems.
- Collaborate with production and engineering teams to improve equipment reliability.
Required profile
- Significant experience as an electrician in heavy engineering or continuous process industries (e.g., steel, mining, power generation, cement).
- Proven ability to work safely on heavy industrial assets and maximise plant availability.
- Comfortable diagnosing complex electrical faults and performing both planned and reactive maintenance.
