Shift Engineer – Maintenance (Food Manufacturing)

About the role

As a Shift Engineer you will join McCainers' multi‑disciplined maintenance team at the Wombourne plant, delivering first‑line maintenance and continuous improvement on production equipment. You will record work in the CMMS, support shutdown activities and help drive reliability across your shift area.

Key responsibilities

• Carry out first‑line maintenance tasks efficiently while minimizing waste of time and materials.
• Apply a “Fix it right now” mindset and use Root Cause Analysis to identify underlying failures.
• Observe plant conditions continuously and report any non‑rectifiable deficiencies.
• Provide ideas to improve manufacturing efficiency, equipment reliability and product quality.
• Enter accurate, detailed feedback on completed tasks into the CMMS daily.
• Collaborate with line managers to plan day‑to‑day maintenance and shutdown work.
• Communicate and coordinate change‑related activities within the shift.

Required profile

• BTEC/NVQ Level 3 in Engineering or equivalent (essential).
• Completed apprenticeship in an engineering discipline (essential).
• Experience working in a busy maintenance department, preferably within food manufacturing.
• Broad knowledge of modern maintenance techniques.
• Practical engineering experience in electrical and/or mechanical systems.
