Shift Engineer – Manufacturing (Full‑time)

About the role

We are seeking an experienced Shift Engineer to join our engineering team at the Shepton Mallet site. The role involves maintaining equipment efficiency, minimising downtime, and supporting production in a fast‑paced food manufacturing environment.

Key responsibilities

• Manage engineering activities to maximise equipment efficiency and reliability.
• Carry out and record planned preventative maintenance on plant machinery and services.
• Respond promptly to breakdowns and perform corrective maintenance to reduce production downtime.
• Diagnose faults and implement long‑term engineering solutions.
• Record all maintenance activities in the site’s maintenance management system.
• Support engineering improvement projects and lean manufacturing initiatives.
• Collaborate with engineering and production teams to meet site performance objectives.
• Ensure machinery and services are production‑ready after maintenance.
• Promote high standards of food safety, quality, health and safety, and regulatory compliance.
• Assist in developing best practices and continuous improvement programmes.
• Provide coaching, knowledge sharing, and technical guidance to colleagues.

Required profile

• Recognised engineering qualifications.
• Proven experience in a manufacturing environment, preferably FMCG or food production.
• Strong fault‑finding and problem‑solving abilities.
• Experience with both preventative and reactive maintenance.
• Good understanding of mechanical and electrical systems.
• Effective communication and teamwork skills.
• Proactive approach and ability to work under pressure.
• Commitment to safety, quality, and continuous improvement.
• Self‑motivated and highly driven.
