Shift Maintenance Engineer – 3 on/3 off Rotating Shift

About the role

The Shift Maintenance Engineer will work on‑site at a manufacturing facility in the Scottish Borders, reporting to the Engineering Lead. The role covers scheduled preventive maintenance, rapid response to equipment breakdowns, and accurate record‑keeping using a CMMS to ensure safe and reliable production.

Key responsibilities

• Carry out routine preventive maintenance on machinery and plant equipment according to established schedules.
• Respond quickly to unplanned breakdowns, diagnose faults and implement effective repairs.
• Coordinate maintenance activities with the Plant Leader to minimise production impact.
• Update the CMMS with completed work orders, spare parts usage and new asset information.
• Monitor spare‑parts inventory and trigger replenishment when needed.
• Identify and implement continuous‑improvement actions, support root‑cause analyses and develop reliability solutions.

Required profile

• Recognised engineering qualification or time‑served apprenticeship in Mechanical, Electrical or Multi‑Skilled Maintenance Engineering.
• Proven experience as a Maintenance Engineer in a manufacturing or industrial environment.
• Familiarity with PLCs, hydraulics and pneumatics is beneficial.
• Strong competence in root‑cause analysis, fault‑finding and repair techniques.
• Understanding of predictive and preventive maintenance philosophies.
• Willingness to work a 3‑on/3‑off rotating shift pattern (12‑hour days and nights).
