Shift Production Manager – Rail & Rolling Stock Maintenance

About the role

We are seeking a Shift Production Manager to lead a high‑performing engineering team at our busy rail maintenance depot in Leeds. You will be responsible for the safe, efficient and high‑quality maintenance of a fleet of freight locomotives, working closely with the Depot Manager to meet production targets.

Key responsibilities

• Lead, motivate and develop a team of around 15 engineers and technicians.
• Oversee day‑to‑day maintenance and repair of freight locomotives.
• Support the Depot Manager in achieving production targets and maximising fleet availability.
• Monitor engineering performance and drive continuous improvement initiatives.
• Ensure all work complies with company and industry safety standards.
• Promote a strong safety culture throughout the depot.
• Act as deputy for the Depot Manager and other supervisory staff when required.
• Build positive relationships with colleagues, customers and key stakeholders.

Required profile

• NVQ Level 3 (or equivalent) in an engineering discipline.
• Minimum 3 years’ experience in a supervisory or management role.
• At least 5 years’ experience in heavy vehicle or engineering maintenance environments.
• Strong people leadership, communication and organisational abilities.
• Proactive problem‑solving mindset with a commitment to safety and quality.
