Shipping Manager

About the role

The Shipping Manager will lead export logistics for a growing international business in the energy and natural resources sector. Based in Exeter, this permanent role oversees end‑to‑end movement of goods by air and sea, supporting international growth and compliance.

Key responsibilities

• Manage all export shipping activities across international markets.
• Coordinate and oversee air‑freight and sea‑freight shipments.
• Ensure compliance with UK export regulations, customs requirements and international trade legislation.
• Prepare and review export documentation, including commercial invoices, packing lists, certificates of origin, dangerous goods declarations and customs paperwork.
• Liaise with freight forwarders, shipping lines, airlines, customs brokers and overseas customers.
• Monitor shipment performance, lead times and transport costs, identifying improvement and cost‑saving opportunities.
• Manage export schedules to meet customer delivery requirements.
• Support sales, operations and customer service teams with shipping advice and export queries.
• Maintain accurate shipping records and provide KPI reporting to management.
• Ensure compliance with health, safety and environmental standards.

Required profile

• Proven experience as an Export Shipping Manager, Export Logistics Manager or in an International Logistics role.
• Strong knowledge of international shipping procedures for both air and sea freight.
• Experience handling export documentation and customs compliance.
• Familiarity with Incoterms, freight forwarding and international trade regulations.
• Experience coordinating shipments to multiple global destinations.
• Excellent organisational and problem‑solving abilities.
• Strong negotiation and supplier management skills.
• High attention to detail and accuracy.
