Shipping Manager / Officer

About the role

You will join a leading high‑tech manufacturer in the aerospace and defence sector, initially on a 3‑6 month fixed‑term contract that is expected to become permanent. The role focuses on organising the movement of satellite components, ground equipment and support materials worldwide.

Key responsibilities

• Arrange domestic and international shipments of high‑value aerospace components.
• Select and manage specialist couriers and freight forwarders.
• Monitor transit timelines and ensure secure handling of sensitive payloads.
• Prepare and maintain commercial invoices, packing lists and export control documentation.
• Ensure compliance with UK customs regulations and work with the Compliance Team on SPIRE, LITE and ITAR/EAR requirements.
• Liaise with customs brokers and relevant government bodies.
• Evaluate logistics processes and recommend improvements for efficiency and cost control.
• Maintain strong relationships with logistics providers to support agile project delivery.

Required profile

• Proven experience in a shipping or logistics role, preferably within high‑tech manufacturing, aerospace or defence.
• Familiarity with UK customs and export control procedures (SPIRE).
• Understanding of ITAR and EAR is advantageous.
• Experience using ERP and inventory systems, such as SAP S/4HANA.
• Strong competence with Microsoft Excel and shipment tracking platforms.
