Skilled Mechanical Operatives

About the role

We are recruiting Skilled Mechanical Operatives for Edwards Vacuum in Clevedon. The role supports the production line by building mechanical abatement systems and pump frames, assembling cabinets and sub‑assemblies to precise specifications.

Key responsibilities

• Assemble mechanical systems, cabinets and pump frames.
• Fit sub‑assemblies to cabinets or frames and prepare components for build.
• Read and interpret mechanical drawings, layout diagrams and P&IDs.
• Carry out basic wiring, leak testing and fault finding on assembled units.
• Maintain health, safety, environmental and quality standards and ensure “right first time” workmanship.
• Follow 5S principles, keep the work area clean and complete production documentation accurately.
• Support other production areas and meet production targets and deadlines.

Required profile

• Proven experience in mechanical assembly or fitting.
• Ability to read and interpret technical and mechanical drawings.
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality.
• Good problem‑solving skills and ability to work to deadlines in a fast‑paced environment.

Required skills

• Mechanical assembly of cabinets and pump frames.
• Use of hand tools and power tools.
• Interpretation of P&IDs and technical drawings.
• Basic electrical wiring and connections.
• Leak testing and fault finding.
