Sliding Head Programmer / Setter / Operator

About the role

Davall Gears Ltd is seeking a skilled Sliding Head Programmer / Setter / Operator to join its Operations team in Welham Green. This full‑time position offers the chance to work with advanced Swiss‑type CNC lathes in a fast‑growing precision engineering environment.

Key responsibilities

• Set up and operate STAR 38‑B sliding head (Swiss‑type) CNC lathes.
• Program, edit and adjust CNC programs to achieve required dimensions and surface finishes.
• Inspect components using micrometres, verniers and other precision measuring tools.
• Perform basic preventative maintenance on machinery.
• Identify and implement process improvements to boost efficiency and reduce waste.
• Maintain a clean, safe workspace and follow all safety procedures.

Required profile

• Proven experience operating sliding head (Swiss‑type) CNC lathes, preferably STAR machines.
• Strong ability to read and interpret technical drawings.
• Excellent problem‑solving skills with attention to detail.
• Effective communication and a collaborative, team‑oriented mindset.
• Commitment to health and safety standards in a fast‑paced environment.
