Social Media Officer – Digital Content (Temporary)

About the role

We are seeking a Social Media Officer to join a local government Combined Authority in Ellesmere Port. The role is temporary (initial 3 months) and will support the Digital Content Manager in delivering engaging, inclusive social media content that aligns with the Authority’s priorities and the upcoming mayoral transition.

Key responsibilities

• Create, schedule and publish content across all Combined Authority social media channels, ensuring brand consistency and accessibility.
• Produce graphics, short‑form videos, animations and platform‑specific stories tailored to diverse audiences.
• Monitor channels, respond to interactions, and escalate issues when required.
• Collaborate with communications teams across constituent councils and partner organisations for coordinated messaging.
• Develop social media material to support statutory consultations and encourage public participation.
• Analyse performance data, identify trends and recommend improvements.
• Assist with paid social campaigns and provide rapid support during breaking news or reputational incidents.
• Maintain political neutrality and ensure content reflects the Authority’s tone of voice and values.

Required profile

• Experience creating and managing social media content for public‑sector or community audiences.
• Strong understanding of accessibility and inclusive communication principles.
• Ability to work collaboratively with multiple councils and partner organisations.
• Comfortable handling time‑sensitive situations and escalating issues appropriately.
