Social Worker – Adoption (Leicester)

About the role

This temporary position supports the Post Adoption Team in Leicester, providing emotional and practical assistance to special guardians and adoptive families. You will help families navigate new dynamics, trauma, and attachment challenges while ensuring the child's welfare.

Key responsibilities

• Offer emotional and practical support to special guardians and adoptive parents.
• Assist families in adjusting to new dynamics and address trauma‑related needs.
• Identify and report safeguarding concerns to the appropriate teams.
• Coordinate therapeutic services such as counselling, CAMHS, and play therapy.
• Conduct post‑order assessments for support services and funding.
• Participate in a busy duty system, taking referrals and liaising with schools, health professionals, and other agencies.
• Advocate for families to access education, health, and specialist services.
• Support children in understanding their life history and adoption journey.
• Deliver training, workshops, and guidance on attachment‑informed care.
• Assist with birth record redaction and sharing with adult adoptees as required.

Required profile

• Qualified Social Worker with registration with Social Work England.
• Experience in post‑adoption work.
• Valid driving licence and access to your own vehicle.
