Social Worker – Adult Social Care (Newton Abbot)

About the role

Join Devon County Council's Adult Social Care team in Newton Abbot and help adults live independent, fulfilling lives. You will work with older adults across a range of complex needs, applying person‑centred practice and safeguarding expertise.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct strengths‑based, person‑centred assessments and develop care plans.
• Apply the Care Act, Mental Capacity Act and Mental Health Act in decision‑making.
• Lead safeguarding enquiries and manage complex or whole‑service concerns.
• Collaborate with health partners, voluntary organisations and multidisciplinary teams.
• Prepare Court of Protection applications, including authorisations for deprivation of liberty.
• Maintain accurate, reflective case records and contribute to service development.
• Mentor students, newly qualified social workers and less experienced colleagues.

Required profile

• Registered Social Worker with Social Work England.
• Experience or strong interest in adult social care, risk assessment and safeguarding.
• Knowledge of the Care Act, Mental Capacity Act and Mental Health Act.
• Excellent communication skills with adults, families and professionals.
• Ability to work autonomously, manage a varied caseload and make sound decisions.
• Commitment to reflective practice and ongoing professional development.
• Full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle (reasonable adjustments considered).
