Social Worker – Children with Disabilities (Hybrid)

About the role

Peterborough City Council is looking for an experienced Social Worker to join its Children with Disabilities Team. The role involves safeguarding children with complex needs, delivering assessments and supporting families through key transitions, including adulthood. You will work in a supportive hybrid environment, spending at least two days per week in the office.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct eligibility assessments for children with disabilities.
• Manage and support children under Child in Need, Child Protection, and Children in Care plans.
• Handle work related to private and public law proceedings, including Public Law Outline processes.
• Support young people during transitions into adulthood.
• Complete Mental Capacity Assessments and make Best Interests decisions.
• Manage Deprivation of Liberty applications and related proceedings.
• Collaborate with families, carers, schools, health professionals and partner agencies to achieve optimal outcomes.

Required profile

• Qualified Social Worker with current registration with Social Work England.
• Experience in Children’s Services, preferably within a Children with Disabilities team.
• Strong knowledge of safeguarding, court work and statutory responsibilities.
• Proven ability to manage complex caseloads and conduct assessments.
• Excellent communication and partnership‑working skills.
• Capability to respond promptly to crises and urgent safeguarding concerns.
