Social Worker – Children’s Single Point of Access

About the role

West Berkshire Council is seeking a dedicated Social Worker to join the Children and Family Services team. You will work from the Market Street Offices, supporting the safeguarding and well‑being of children and families in the local community.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct assessments to identify the needs of children and their families.
• Provide appropriate interventions and support to achieve the best outcomes for children.
• Collaborate with professionals, agencies, and families to promote child welfare.
• Maintain accurate case notes, reports and other records.
• Attend court hearings and give evidence when required.
• Ensure compliance with legislation, regulations and professional standards.

Required profile

• Qualified Social Worker with a current Social Work England registration.
• Experience in children and family services, preferably within a local authority.
• Strong knowledge of relevant legislation, statutory guidance and safeguarding practice.
• Excellent assessment, intervention and report‑writing abilities.
• Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Good organisational skills and capacity to manage a diverse caseload.
