Software Engineer – Back End, APIs & AI

About the role

Join a leading e‑commerce marketplace in Manchester as a Software Engineer focused on back‑end development, APIs and AI‑assisted tooling. You will help build and evolve the cloud‑native services that power a modern marketplace, working across the full software development lifecycle.

Key responsibilities

• Design, build and maintain scalable APIs, backend services and data processing pipelines.
• Contribute to front‑end applications when needed, working across the full technology stack.
• Collaborate with product managers, designers and engineers to deliver customer‑focused solutions.
• Develop using modern technologies such as TypeScript, Node.js, AWS and Docker.
• Champion engineering best practices including CI/CD, automated testing, observability and continuous delivery.
• Monitor, troubleshoot and improve reliability and performance of production systems.
• Participate in pair programming, code reviews and collaborative design sessions.
• Take ownership of services, shape technical direction and continuously improve the platform.
• Leverage AI‑assisted development tools like GitHub Copilot, Claude or Codex to boost productivity.

Required profile

• Enjoys solving complex technical problems and building scalable systems.
• Thrives in collaborative, high‑performing teams.
• Experience developing backend applications and APIs with TypeScript/Node.js.
• Familiarity with AI‑powered development tools (Claude, Codex, GitHub Copilot).
• Strong background building and operating solutions on AWS.
• Experience with Infrastructure as Code, preferably Terraform.
• Hands‑on experience with Docker; Kubernetes knowledge is a plus.
• Proficient in designing and consuming RESTful APIs and integrating third‑party services.
• Understanding of distributed systems, event‑driven architecture and systems integration.
• Passion for clean code, testing and software craftsmanship.
