Software Engineer (Back End, APIs, AI)

About the role

Join a leading e‑commerce marketplace in Manchester as a Software Engineer focused on back‑end development, APIs and AI‑assisted tooling. You will work within a cloud‑native product team to design, build and operate the services that power critical business data flows.

Key responsibilities

• Design, develop and maintain scalable APIs, backend services and data processing pipelines.
• Contribute to front‑end applications when needed, working across the full technology stack.
• Collaborate with product managers, designers and engineers to deliver customer‑focused solutions.
• Implement modern technologies such as TypeScript, AWS and Docker, and champion CI/CD, automated testing and observability.
• Monitor, troubleshoot and improve production reliability using observability tooling.
• Participate in pair programming, code reviews and collaborative design sessions.
• Own the services you build, shaping technical direction and continuously improving the platform.
• Leverage AI‑assisted development tools (GitHub Copilot, Claude, Codex) to boost productivity.

Required profile

• Passion for solving complex technical problems and building scalable systems.
• Experience developing backend applications and APIs with TypeScript/Node.js.
• Interest or exposure to Java, Kotlin or similar languages.
• Strong background in AWS and cloud‑native architectural best practices.
• Hands‑on experience with Infrastructure as Code, preferably Terraform.
• Familiarity with containerisation (Docker) and, ideally, Kubernetes.
• Knowledge of RESTful API design, distributed systems and event‑driven architectures.
• Commitment to clean code, testing and software craftsmanship.
