Software Engineer – Secure Digital Solutions (Hybrid)

About the role

We are working with a specialist technology organisation delivering secure, mission‑critical digital solutions to Defence and National Security customers. The Software Engineer will design, develop and deliver secure digital solutions in a highly secure environment, based in Cheltenham with a hybrid working pattern of three days in the office.

Key responsibilities

• Collaborate with the development team to design, develop and maintain software solutions.
• Develop reliable Android applications using Kotlin and Jetpack Compose.
• Use Git for version control and collaborative development.
• Design and implement backend services with Rust, Python or Go, including web APIs.
• Containerise applications with Docker and manage deployments.
• Implement and maintain CI/CD pipelines to automate delivery.
• Write clean, efficient, well‑documented code following industry best practices.
• Participate in code reviews and provide constructive feedback.
• Develop Proof‑of‑Concept applications where requirements change rapidly.
• Stay up to date with emerging technologies and industry trends.
• Work effectively within secure development environments, including remote VMs.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering or a related field.
• Strong proficiency with Git and collaborative development.
• Experience in Android/Kotlin development, including Jetpack Compose.
• Ability to develop PoC applications in fast‑changing environments.
• Familiarity with backend development using Rust, Python or Go.
• Understanding of software principles such as MVVM and UDF.
• Knowledge of Web APIs, OpenAPI standards and data structures.
• Experience with Docker and containerised deployments.
• Knowledge of DevOps processes, CI/CD pipelines and automated testing.
• Strong communication, collaboration and problem‑solving skills.
• Comfortable working in secure environments, including remote VMs.
